[edit] Era III

Britain is one of the four countries or nations within the MedievilWars World from which players can choose to play. Throughout the ages, Britain has been a multicultural nation. The British have taken advantage of this cultural and traditional knowledge and as a result start with level 1 Town Ordinance technology and level 1 Town Hall. All Britons start in Britain.

Players within Britain can access features limited to players in their country. Under the Diplomacy tab on the left of the screen, players can access the Kingdom of Britain forum, where they can communicate with other Britons, receive help and tips on game play, and participate in the larger British community. Players may also buy and sell resources within Britain on the Market.

[edit] Government

The government of Britain is a parliamentary democracy. The government is administered by a Prime Minister who is elected by majority vote. The laws of Britain are codified primarily in the Magna Carta and Lex Legis Britannia and are decided by a majority vote by forum poll. All players in Britain are free to participate in their government, which is conducted mainly through the Kingdom of Britain forum, but also through the public forums and within the game itself.

Currently the Prime Minister of Britain is Felwred.

[edit] Parliament

Parliament is the main governing body in the British government. It consists of all players in Britain of netscore 100 and above. Affairs of Parliament are conducted within the Government and Politics sub-forum where all members can propose, read, debate and vote upon laws, amendments and declarations. All votes are taken by forum poll, administered by the Prime Minister, and are held open for no less than 48 hours.

Parliament was formed and is governed by Article 1 of Magna Carta which accounts for its formation and singularity of purpose, but also limits its reach. Article 2, Section 2 of Magna Carta outlines those limitations:

Parliament may not cast any vote or pass any law as to the individual operation, taxation, management, or use of individual member territories or their constituent vassals, nor any law to subvert the sovereignty of Britain as a whole to any foreign power. Any tax, resource forfeiture, or call to arms must be outlined first by law and entered into by this Parliament before such tax, forfeiture, or soldiery can be required. Parliament may not pass ex post facto laws or retributions of any kind.

A new Parliament is convened whenever a vote to change the government is concluded. Since its formation, Parliament has been convened twice, once after the ratification of the Magna Carta, and once after The Monday Rebellion.

[edit] Prime Minister and Cabinet

The Prime Minister is Britain's chief magistrate and head of state. He or she is elected by a majority vote of Parliament and serves until a vote of confidence is called. He or she has no royal power or innate right to rule, but instead serves primus inter pares or 'first among equals.' The duties and powers of the Prime Minister include: the appointment of ministers for his cabinet, the delegation of military command in time of war, the administration of ballots and law, and to serve as the sole organ of official statements from the British state.

Sydiot was the first Prime Minister of Britain, elected on 05-01-2009 by a vote of 17 to 6. Jamos was our second Prime Minister elected with a 28 to 5 victory over Kristov on 20-03-2009. Felwred was our third Prime Minister elected on 17-04-2009 by a 35 to 2 win. Nettle is our current Prime Minister elected on 16-07-2009 by a 18 to 3 vote.

The Prime Minister chooses three cabinet ministers to serve in an official capacity for each of three areas: Foreign Affairs, Defense, and the Interior. These ministers serve at the pleasure of both the Prime Minister and Parliament and have duties that change with the needs of the people, but mostly include administration and the representation of the government in communications and policy. We also have 3 ambassadors one for each nation. The duty of the ambassadors is to communicate with the given country and solve disputes.

The current elected government of Britain is as follows:

Prime Minister Felwred
Interior Minister Ducking
Foreign Minister Abutcha
Defense Minister Dare2Brude
Ambassador to Scandinavia Abutcha
Ambassador to Germania
Ambassador to France Mat4

[edit] Voting and Procedure

The process of lawmaking in Britain, as outlined in Article 3 of Magna Carta, is undertaken by Parliament and administered by the Prime Minister. Any player may make a motion to vote, and any player may second a motion to vote. Once a motion is seconded, it is put up for a forum poll that expires in no less than 48 hours. A majority vote is required to pass a law, and a majority of 13 or more is necessary to make any constitutional changes to Magna Carta.

Criticism has been leveled at the system about the validity of forum voting. Not all players in Britain are active forum readers, nor do all players speak English in their native tongue, meaning laws could be passed and enforced without the full consent of the public. Despite these charges, forum voting remains the standard for the British government due to it's ease of use and openness to any player. Voting participation has grown with each ballot placed, at times exceeding 40 individual votes.

[edit] Military

The Royal British Army is the official military agency of the British state. It is established and governed by The Army Act and is comprised of nine battalions and a High Command. All enlisted persons volunteer to serve and swear an Oath of Service to uphold the Magna Carta. All official actions of the Royal British Army derive from a explicit consent of Parliament, or in emergency situations, from the Prime Minister's executive authority.

Britain has been especially active in early nation-based warfare in Era 3. Britons rallied early around a national identity during conflicts like the Water Wars and the Monday Rebellion, pioneering the use of en masse attack as a way of deterring and punishing raids and insurrection.

Britain's first nationwide military campaign was in response to the Viking Crusades and the quest for the Ark of the Covenant. Following the Vikings Defeat at Illyria, British forces struck a number of coastal villages in Scandinavia and France, decimating them and eventually bringing an end to the quest. After Sydiot's victory speech to Parliament, angered Vikings burned the British Embassy at Brussels.

Britain's army worked with the Norse Council in dissolving the alliance of Reavers, successfully deterring membership in the group and punishing its leaders. This action still marks the current division in Scandinavian internal politics.

In early March 2009, piracy and skirmishes between Britain and France grew to a climax. After a secret declaration of war by Parliament on 07-03-2009, British troops invaded dozens of French towns in what came to be known as the Silent War. Despite Parliament's repealing of the articles of war two days later, thousands of British troops remained scattered around France for weeks while larger forces battled in both countries. The war was brought to an abrupt halt following the assassination of Sydiot and the election of Jamos as Prime Minister.

Recent activities involving the British military include a successful offensive conducted against a group of Italian players residing in the Germanic nation.

Currently the British Army is deep in a war against Scandinavia and allied players in both France and Germania.

The British Army and some of its generals have been heavily criticized for the use of en masse attacks in response to minor attacks as well as the use of the Attack Potion exploit. These tactics proved an early advantage in group combat but were tempered by evasive maneuvers used against them in the Silent War.

  • Britons: The industrious Britons receive one extra turn per hour. As turns are the only resource that is time-dependent, this bonus can be useful in kingdom growth.
