[edit] Era III

France is one of the four countries or nations within the MedievilWars World from which players can choose to play. Many master architects and builders call France home. This allows all Normans to start with Level 1 Fortification technology and a Level 1 Wall protecting their kingdom. All Normans start in France.

Players within France can access features limited to players in their country. Under the Diplomacy tab on the left of the screen, players can access the Kingdom of France forum, where they can communicate with other Normans, receive help and tips on game play, and participate in the larger Norman community. Players may also buy and sell resources within France on the Market.

[edit] Current State of France

[edit] Government

France is a Nation of Free Spirits who have demurred on the subject of formal government. The strong Norman Patriots instead participate in a more rich and flexible form of democracy without undue government restrictions. On matters of national import, they come together in the Kingdom of France Forum and discuss matters, each on an equal footing.

[edit] Culture

Specially marked by cunning, despising their own inheritance in the hope of winning a greater, eager after both gain and dominion, given to imitation of all kinds, holding a certain mean between lavishness and greediness, that is, perhaps uniting, as they certainly did, these two seemingly opposite qualities. Their chief men were specially lavish through their desire of good report. They were, moreover, a race skillful in flattery, given to the study of eloquence, so that the very boys were orators, a race altogether unbridled unless held firmly down by the yoke of justice. They were enduring of toil, hunger, and cold whenever fortune laid it on them, given to hunting and hawking, delighting in the pleasure of horses, and of all the weapons and garb of war.

[edit] Significant Historical Events

[edit] General History

The rise of the French Nation began immediately at the foundation of this era on 22 December 2008, with a cadre of dedicated veterans players from preceding eras and a new influx of aggressive Norman patriots. However early communications and cooperation was very limited as there was no national forum at the onset and the main forum opened communication with all kingdoms, not just national ones. Petty raiding amongst nearby kingdoms allowed for early centers of power and influence within France. With the establishment of the Kingdom of France Forum on 26 December 2008, a sense of community and patriotism was born and communication, cooperation and information sharing gave the French peoples many early advantages.

At the onset of the current era a group of Scandinavians initiated the first social group. The group was dedicated toward a 10 day non-aggression pact with other member kingdoms. The language and aggressive nature of many of these early players gave impetus for the formation of anti-farming groups, the first signs of national patriotism for this era. Establishment of the French Farming Protection Group (FFPG) was a direct response to the aggressive posture that the non-aggression pact inferred. The mettle of the FFPG was quickly tested by the incursion of a rogue British attacker. This first British raid immediately caused a stir in the French Forum and a flurry of communications between members of the FFPG and the newly established leadership of Britain. However it was the immediate deployment of a military response to the raider's doorstep (see Tigrlove Affair) that forced the withdrawal of the British raider in shame and without spoils. Almost as soon as the first incursion was resolved there came another aggressive British incursion by a raucous and vile rogue (see Skinner Affair) who miscast his aggression as a "test". Research proved that the test was only a test of the FFPG's resolve in the face of aggression and at least one member became so disgruntled at the group's failure to act that he exited the group and resolved to defend France alone if need be. Others were soon to follow and a period in distinct internal tension followed.

Again, the direct application of force was responsible for resolution of the matter of foreign affairs, but bungled diplomacy and misguided loyalty of a self appointed French Diplomat led to his siding with the British Rogue and calling the lone defender a liar in both the public and Kingdom of France forums. Thus, the self described pirate with a sense of honor challenged the errant self appointed diplomat to a duel of single combat (see The Duel) which played out publicly in forum. The initiation of an anti-government movement by another prominent and distinctly independent Norman Lord took government formation matters from the national stage to the international one. Civil war and public discussion quickly ended the formation of formal government within France. A majority of outspoken Lords decried the formation and restrictions that a government would impose opting instead to work on developing the strength of individual kingdoms and working toward the advancement of the French Market which was at the time rumored to be key to accomplishment of a national wonder project.

Despite the cessation of governmental organization efforts in France, military action against formal government formers was not over. A determined, aggressive and independent French lord took the fight to Britain (see The Water War) and simultaneously defeated a number of British Kingdoms in direct combat actions directed at dismantling their attempts at government formation. As this war expanded, two other French lords took up the fight and despite a massive response by the British, all attacks on French soil were thwarted and the British closed the chapter on this event having been severely punished in both attack and defensive operations in Britain and France. Three French lords had stood up to the combined might of all active British attackers and emerged victorious in every skirmish, but the aim of the military action failed and British resolve to form a formal government out stripped the concerns raised.

Following the Skinner Affair, the Nation of France entered a period of relative peace and growth while witnessing external turmoil between Britain and Scandinavia. Despite calls for assistance from both sides, France remained relatively neutral and experienced significant growth for a period of several weeks.

[edit] Attack by the British PM

A French Corsair returned from abroad with tales of a wondrous sword and other lost artifacts which were rumored to be found in Britain. This began a largely Scandinavian search for the relics. French participation in the search for the sword and other artifacts was largely unpublished but tensions began to rise as the British took affront to the Corsair's tales. British attacks on the French homeland were met with stiff resistance and reprisal and tensions rose to the point where the British Prime Minister decided to invade France in an attempt to "punish" the Corsair for his tales. This event has become known as "The Undeclared War" and was marked by a period of relative silence between the nations of Britain and France in the international forum. The French people saw the attack by the British Prime Minister as an out right declaration of war and responded immediately in a wide spread effort. A General of the Armies was appointed and reprisal attacks on Britain began. French lords rose to the challenge by sounding the call for recruitment, organizing into local militias and flooding the market with cheap goods for wartime supply replenishment. Early in this conflict the British resorted to the use of weapons of mass destruction and eliminated the fighting forces of 3 prominent French Kingdoms. This enraged the French population and gave them a resolve unmatched in the era up to this point. Active French Kingdoms more than doubled during this time. In response to the British use of immoral weapons the French developed advanced war plans and initiated Operations Enrage, Stealth and Dogpile. The activity of French Kingdoms was so broad and pervasive that the British government had no answer and was largely unaware of the damage being done. It was said that the Isle of Britannia burned from corner to corner during this war as French Kingdoms at all levels participated in single and coordinated attacks.

At about the midpoint of the war, with British support for continued action flagging, the British Prime Minister became despondent and was assassinated by his own people amidst accusations that Frenchmen had committed this heinous deed. These allegations gave even more rancor to the French population who vowed to visit every British village and farm until there was absolute capitulation by every living British subject. Germanian diplomats, avowing their neutrality were often seen supporting the British and were several times involved in coordinated attacks against French Kingdoms. Despite this obvious breach of their stated Neutrality, Frenchmen withheld retaliatory response against errant Germanians and worked diplomatically with other Germanian lords to illuminate the violations of neutrality by the popular German diplomat. The French operational tempo remained steady and this gave impetus to the British need to reorganize their government. With appointment of a new peace seeking Prime Minister and efforts to back away from the war, the conflict was finally resolved. France had again risen in the face of British aggression, repulsed all attacks and carried the day with heroism, leadership and the GREAT RESOLVE of the French population.

[edit] Formation of Important Social Groups

In the early days in response to the Scandinavian Noob Protection Guild (25-12-2008) and the making of the Germanian Protection Guild (28-12-2008), The French Farming Protection Group was created by Civiiii, Superferd, Athena and joined by Jollyroger among other early powerful lords.

Later a group named "The Ambassadors" was created by Civiii (03-01-2008) for leaders of the 4 nations to talk.

Then the group "French Ambassadorial Halls" was created by Civiii on (03-01-2009) as a psuedo-government. The creation of this group led to civil war.
